TBIS-Build A Better Lunchbox
LESSON OVERVIEW ( Grades K-5)
In this STEM lesson students solve a real world problem by helping Gracie build a better lunchbox to keep her popsicles frozen for longer . We will start by introducing the students to the problem through a story involving the bold inventors team .
Students will then deep dive into the engineering design process to ASK ->BRAINSTORM ->PLAN ->BUILD -> TEST and IMPROVE their designs . They will end with a SHARING session to talk about their creation , ask questions and take feedback from each other .
The lesson uses an inquiry based discussion centered around different phenomena to understand heat flow before students start planning and building their solutions.
During the brainstorming step the students get introduced to the concepts of insulators and conductors through characters like Izzie Insulator , Cody conductor and Manny Mitt that makes their learning journey fun and engaging .
This lesson is created on PADLET , an online collaboration tool that allows students to post answers in a flexible format and engage with the lesson in a flow thats easy to follow .
